The Center for Theology and the Humanities (CTCH) is one of four dean’s offices at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. It is made up of seven departments, eight undergraduate courses, eight graduate programs, 3350 undergraduate students, 290 master’s students, 393 doctoral students, and 332 professors. This April 2017 data does not include students from the center’s numerous extension and specialization courses.
In addition to the Departments of Architecture and Urbanism, Art and Design, Education, Philosophy, Letters, Psychology, and Theology, the dean’s office includes the Institute of Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IEAHu) and the Carlo Maria Martini Chair.
Our mission is inspired by the humanistic-Christian tradition, promoting culture in its various levels and definitions; prioritizing the three pillars of teaching, research, and extension; training competent professionals committed to ethics, the common good, and environmental sustainability; and respecting all expressions of diversity, whether religious, political, racial, sexual, or gender-based.
The CTCH values ??interdepartmental dialogue, encourages interdisciplinary practices that bring together different areas of knowledge and promote the formation of research networks, and prioritizes innovative approaches and the search for agreements and partnerships that reaffirm the internationalization goals of PUC-Rio.
